The Switch Rod for Every European River

The ECHO Swing Switch 11'7" #7 Fly Rod is the most versatile rod in the Swing Switch range — light enough to fish all day without fatigue, powerful enough to cover wide pools and swing flies through productive lies, and perfectly calibrated for the kind of mixed fishing that defines a season on European rivers. At #7 and 218g, it sits in the sweet spot between a dedicated trout Spey outfit and a full sea trout switch rod, making it the natural choice for anglers who want one rod that does everything well.

At just €429, it delivers exceptional value for a two-handed switch rod of this quality and capability.

Built for European Rivers

The Swing Switch #7 is at home on the full breadth of European fly fishing water. On the classic sea trout rivers of Jutland and the Baltic coast, it gives you the reach and line control to cover the productive night lies without the weight of a heavier outfit. On the larger trout and grayling rivers of Central Europe — the Danube tributaries of Austria and Bavaria, the limestone rivers of Slovenia, the freestone rivers of Poland — the 11'7" length transforms what a #7 rod can do, opening up Scandi and switch line techniques that a standard 9'0" rod simply cannot access.

The dual grip design lets you fish two-handed for distance and mending, or drop to a single-handed grip for close-in presentation and precise fly placement — a genuine advantage on rivers where conditions change from pool to pool.

Line Pairing

The Swing Switch #7 loads beautifully with Scandi shooting heads in the 270–330gr range, light Skagit heads for heavier flies and sink tips, and dedicated switch lines for all-round versatility. It is an ideal first two-handed rod for anglers stepping up from single-handed fly fishing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECHO Swing Switch 11'7" #7?

The ECHO Swing Switch 11'7" (357cm) #7 is the versatile all-rounder in the ECHO Swing Switch range. It is a medium fast action two-handed switch rod weighing approximately 218g, designed for sea trout, trout Spey, and grayling fishing across the full range of European rivers. It is the most versatile choice in the series for anglers who want one rod for varied European river fishing.

How does the #7 compare to the #6 and #8 in the Swing Switch series?

The #6 is the lightest and most refined rod, suited to trout Spey and grayling fishing on intimate European rivers. The #7 is the versatile all-rounder covering the widest range of European river fishing situations — from sea trout on Baltic coastal rivers to trout Spey on Central European rivers. The #8 is the most powerful, suited to sea trout and Atlantic salmon on larger rivers. The #7 is the best single choice for most European switch rod anglers.

What rivers is the ECHO Swing Switch #7 suited to?

The #7 Swing Switch is suited to the sea trout rivers of Jutland and the Baltic coast, the larger trout and grayling rivers of Austria, Bavaria, Slovenia, and Poland, and any European river where a versatile medium fast switch rod is the most practical choice. It excels wherever a balance of delicacy and authority is required across varied conditions.

Is the Swing Switch #7 suitable for beginners to two-handed casting?

Yes — the medium fast action is forgiving of timing errors and the dual grip design allows you to experiment with switch and Spey techniques at your own pace. It is an excellent first two-handed rod for single-handed fly fishers who want to explore switch casting on European rivers.

Is the ECHO Swing Switch 11'7" #7 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the ECHO Swing Switch 11'7" #7 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Balticflyfisher is your specialist source for European switch and Spey fly fishing tackle.

Further Details

Have your cake and eat it, too!  The ECHO Swing Trout-Spey, Switch and Spey rods feature crisp actions and perfect power to fit a wide range of casting strokes and fishing situations without breaking the bank.  Unique switch rod sizes are dialed in for real fishing situations where you need serious backbone but don’t have the space for a full-sized spey.  The Trout-Spey is new for 2024. Swinging, skating or chucking bobbers for trout, sea trout or salmon, the new Swing is ready to play.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Do not use tape on your ferrules.

Action/Power Comparison Chart

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
