Designed for One Thing. The Perfect Swing.

The ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" #4 Fly Rod is not a compromise or an adaptation — it is a rod designed from the ground up for a single, specific purpose: swinging flies for wild trout and sea trout on the rivers of the British Isles and Europe. Built from lightweight, high-modulus graphite and weighing just 165g, it is one of the most refined trout Spey rods available at any price, with a medium fast action that loads beautifully with light Scandi heads and delivers flies with a delicacy and precision that purpose-built rods achieve and general-purpose rods never quite can.

At €779, the ECHO Trout Spey sits at the premium end of the trout Spey market — and it earns that position with every cast.

Built for the Swing

Swinging flies — the art of presenting a wet fly, soft hackle, or small tube fly on a downstream arc through the productive lies of a trout river — is one of the oldest and most satisfying techniques in fly fishing. It demands a rod that loads smoothly at short range, mends line effortlessly across complex currents, and maintains contact with the fly through the entire swing without dragging it off course. The ECHO Trout Spey was engineered to do exactly this, and nothing else.

The medium fast action is the key. It loads progressively with light Scandi shooting heads, giving you the feel and feedback to adjust your cast and presentation in real time. It mends with authority without disturbing the fly. And when a trout or sea trout takes on the swing — that unmistakable, arm-wrenching pull — the action absorbs the initial shock and keeps the fish connected.

UK & Irish Rivers — Wild Brown Trout & Sea Trout

On the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland — the upper Wye, the Eden, the Usk, the Tay tributaries, and the west Highland spate rivers — the ECHO Trout Spey transforms the experience of fishing a swung fly. The 11'0" length gives you the reach to mend line across complex currents and hold the fly in the productive zone through the entire swing, covering water that a single-handed rod simply cannot fish as effectively.

On the sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland — the Towy, the Teifi, the Dyfi, the Conwy — and the intimate spate rivers of Ireland's west coast — the Erriff, the Delphi, the Bundorragha — the #4 line weight keeps the presentation refined and the tippet fine, giving you the delicacy to fish effectively on low, clear summer water when sea trout are at their most wary.

Summer Grilse — A Superb Lightweight Option

The #4 Trout Spey is also a superb choice for summer grilse fishing on smaller salmon rivers. On the intimate spate rivers of Scotland, Ireland, and Scandinavia — where grilse run through July and August in low, clear water — the 11'0" length and #4 line weight allow you to present small flies on fine tippets with the delicacy that summer salmon demand. It is not a rod for heavy flies or high water, but for the angler who wants to fish the swung fly for grilse at its most refined, there is nothing better.

European Rivers — Trout Spey & Scandi Style

Across Europe, the ECHO Trout Spey is the rod for the rivers that reward a swung fly above all other techniques. On the brown trout rivers of Scandinavia, the limestone streams of Austria and Slovenia, and the clear lowland rivers and streams of northern Germany, the medium fast action loads light Scandi heads with a smoothness and efficiency that makes the swing feel effortless. On the classic Scandinavian rivers where the Scandi style was born, this rod is in its natural element.

High-Modulus Graphite — Why It Matters

The lightweight, high-modulus graphite blank is what separates the ECHO Trout Spey from rods built to a lower specification. High-modulus graphite is stiffer per unit weight than standard graphite, which means the blank can be built lighter without sacrificing power or recovery speed. The result is a rod that feels alive in the hand, transmits the feel of the swing directly to the angler, and casts with an efficiency that heavier blanks simply cannot match across a long day on the river.

Pair it with a light Scandi shooting head in the 210–270gr range or a dedicated trout Spey line for all-round versatility on wild trout rivers.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Do not use tape on your ferrules.

Action/Power Comparison Chart

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
