The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #7 is the versatile all-rounder in the Echo Boost Blue series — a fast action saltwater fly rod that bridges the gap between the finesse of the #6 and the authority of the #8. At approximately 116g, it handles sea trout and school bass with equal confidence, performs well in coastal wind, and covers a wider range of species and conditions than any other rod in the series. The natural choice for anglers who want one rod for European coastal fishing.

Why the #7?

The #7 is the sweet spot for European coastal fly fishing. More powerful than the #6 for windier days and larger fish, yet lighter and more refined than the #8 for all-day fishing and finesse presentations. It handles shrimp patterns and smaller streamers for sea trout, larger streamers and surface patterns for school bass and Atlantic bass, and performs across the full range of conditions found on exposed European coastlines. If you fish one rod on the coast, the #7 is the most logical choice.

Line Recommendations

For sea trout, a Scandi or Skagit head suits swinging shrimp patterns and wet flies in coastal currents. An intermediate or slow-sinking line works well for subsurface presentations. For school bass and Atlantic bass, a saltwater-specific floating or intermediate line handles streamers and surface patterns effectively. The fast action handles all these line types with equal authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #7?

The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #7 is the versatile all-rounder in the Echo Boost Blue saltwater series. It is a fast action fly rod weighing approximately 116g, designed for sea trout, school bass, and Atlantic bass fishing on European coastlines. It is the most versatile rod in the series for anglers who want one rod for varied coastal fishing.

How does the #7 compare to the #6 and #8 in the series?

The #6 is the specialist light rod for sea trout and school bass in calm to moderate conditions. The #7 adds power for windier days and larger fish whilst remaining light enough for all-day fishing and finesse presentations. The #8 steps up further for pike, larger bass, and heavier rigs. The #7 is the most versatile choice for European coastal fishing across varied conditions.

Is the #7 suitable for fishing in wind?

Yes — the #7 is an excellent choice for coastal fishing in moderate to strong wind. The additional line weight compared to the #6 maintains casting accuracy and turnover in gusts, and the fast action cuts through wind effectively. It is the preferred choice for exposed coastlines where the #6 can feel underpowered in challenging conditions.

What is the Echo Boost Blue series?

The Echo Boost Blue is a range of fast action saltwater fly rods designed for European coastal fishing, available from #6 through to #12. Each rod in the series is optimised for the specific species and conditions at that line weight — from light sea trout and school bass at #6 through to large Atlantic salmon, pike, and offshore species at the heavier end of the range.

Is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #7 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #7 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Echo rods are designed by Tim Rajeff, a world champion fly caster, and are trusted by coastal fly anglers across Europe and beyond.

Maximum Line Speed

Born from ECHO's popular Boost Salt Series, the Boost Blue is built for anglers with an aggressive casting stroke to achieve maximum line speed.

Crisp, fast action

The all-new actions are a result of Tim’s Rajeffs relentless tweaking to the Boost Salt Series.  With its light tip section mated to a powerful bottom section, these rods pack the punch needed to fight the wind and other challenging conditions.

Ultimate balance of power & precision

The Boost Blue features upgraded titanium stripping guies and is the perfect rod for aggressive casters who can’t live without that modern, fast-action rod feel.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Wash all components with warm freshwater after each days use in saltwater. Pay extra attention to the space where the guides meet the blank and the metal parts of the reel seat. Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
