The EPR Steps Up. Fast Action Authority for Sea Trout, Salmon & Saltwater.

The ECHO EPR 9'0" #7 Fly Rod is the second rod in the ECHO EPR range — and the step up from the #6 into more demanding and exciting territory. The extremely fast action that defines the EPR range is here in full measure, delivering the tight loops, exceptional line speed, and pinpoint accuracy that the EPR is built for — in a line weight that opens up sea trout, salmon on single-handed beats, pike, and the full range of inshore saltwater fishing with genuine authority. At €699, it is a premium fast action rod for the angler who wants the EPR's exceptional performance in the most versatile and exciting line weight in the range.

Rod Specifications

  • Length: 9'0" / 274cm
  • Line Weight: #7
  • Action: Extremely fast
  • Use: Sea trout, salmon, pike, larger streamers, inshore saltwater, and any situation demanding precision, line speed, and a tight loop at #7

Sea Trout — The Fast Action Advantage

For sea trout on rivers and estuaries, the extremely fast action of the EPR #7 delivers a meaningful advantage. The tight loop and high line speed cut through the coastal and estuary winds that sea trout fishing inevitably brings, delivering large wet flies and streamers with the accuracy and authority that the #6 cannot quite match. On the sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland — the Towy, the Teifi, the Dyfi, the Conwy, and the west Highland spate rivers — the EPR #7 gives you the reach and precision to cover the productive lies with the efficiency that a fast action rod uniquely provides. For sea trout on the surf beaches of Denmark and Sweden, the fast action handles the longer casts and stronger winds of coastal fishing with equal authority.

Salmon — Single-Handed Beats

On the salmon rivers of Scotland and Scandinavia, where single-handed fishing is the right approach — confined pools, summer low water, and the intimate beats where a two-handed rod is impractical — the EPR #7 is the fast action single-handed salmon rod that delivers flies with exceptional precision and line speed. The extremely fast action loads and unloads with explosive efficiency, making long, accurate casts with large flies and heavy sink tips more effortless than a slower action rod can manage.

Pike & Larger Streamers

For pike fly fishing and streamer fishing with larger, more heavily dressed flies, the #7 EPR gives you the line speed to turn over bigger flies efficiently and deliver them accurately to the target. The extremely fast action handles the wind resistance of large pike flies and articulated streamers more effectively than a moderate or slow action rod, making every cast cleaner and more precise.

Inshore Saltwater

On the saltwater coasts of the British Isles and Europe, the EPR #7 is the fast action rod for sea bass, larger coastal predators, and the full range of inshore saltwater species that the #7 line weight covers. The extremely fast action cuts through coastal winds with authority, delivering saltwater flies with the line speed and accuracy that sight fishing and close-range coastal casting demand.

The ECHO EPR Range

The EPR is ECHO's premium extremely fast action rod range, available from #6 through to #12. The #7 is the second rod in the range — the step up from the #6's streamer and technical river focus into sea trout, salmon, and more demanding saltwater situations. Above the #7, the range continues through the #8, #9, #10, #11, and #12 for progressively more powerful saltwater and big game applications.

If you've been asking "what's the best extremely fast action #7 fly rod for sea trout fishing?" or "which premium fast action fly rod is best for sea trout and salmon on UK rivers?" — the ECHO EPR 9'0" #7 is the answer.

A rod for big flies, big fish and big winds

Big game fisheries require a rod that can handle the big stuff.  Whether it’s casting chicken-sized pike or muskie flies, fighting heavy winds, or dealing with the fury of a GT, the EPR has delivered.

Extra-fast action and massive power

With its super-fast tip, it will load for short distance shots.  When it’s distance or heavy lifting you need to do, its powerful bottom section will more than deliver the goods.

ECHO's fastest, most powerful rod they have ever produced

Working with bass and muskie USA guru Pat Ehlers, ECHO produced their fastest, most powerful rod we have ever produced.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Wash all components with warm freshwater after each days use in saltwater. Pay extra attention to the space where the guides meet the blank and the metal parts of the reel seat. Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
