The Go-To Inshore Saltwater Rod. Premium in Every Sense.

The ECHO Prime 8'10" #8 Fly Rod is the lightest rod in the ECHO Prime saltwater range — and the go-to choice for the widest variety of inshore saltwater fly fishing situations. At just 120g, it is extraordinarily light for a dedicated saltwater rod, yet the #8 line weight gives it the authority to handle the full range of inshore saltwater species with confidence. The 8'10" length is a deliberate design choice — shorter than the standard 9-foot saltwater rod for a reason: more precise, more responsive, and more enjoyable to fish in the close-range, accurate casting situations that inshore saltwater fishing demands.

At €699, the Prime is ECHO's premium dedicated saltwater rod range — built for the angler who demands the best from their saltwater fly fishing.

Rod Specifications

  • Length: 8'10" / 247cm
  • Line Weight: #8
  • Weight: Approx. 120g
  • Use: Inshore saltwater fly fishing for a wide range of species — sea bass, bonefish, permit, redfish, sea trout, and European coastal species

Why #8 Is the Go-To Inshore Saltwater Line Weight

The #8 is the line weight that experienced saltwater fly fishers reach for most often on inshore flats, estuaries, and coastal marks. It is powerful enough to cast large saltwater flies into a coastal wind, authoritative enough to handle strong fish in tidal currents, and light enough to feel every take and enjoy the fight. At 120g, the Prime #8 is so light that a full day on the flats or a coastal mark feels effortless — a genuine advantage when you are covering ground in search of fish. The #8 covers the full range of inshore saltwater species: sea bass and coastal predators on European coasts, bonefish and permit on tropical flats, redfish and snook in the Americas, and the full range of inshore species wherever saltwater fly fishing takes you.

European Inshore Saltwater — Sea Bass & Coastal Species

On the saltwater coasts of the British Isles and Europe, the Prime #8 is the rod for the angler who wants a premium saltwater outfit for sea bass from estuaries and rocky marks, dorade and sea bass on the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts of Spain and Portugal, and the full range of European coastal species. The 8'10" length delivers flies with the precision and accuracy that sight fishing and close-range coastal fishing demand, and the premium Prime action handles the wind and the fish with equal authority.

Tropical Saltwater — Bonefish, Permit & Flats Fishing

On the tropical saltwater flats of the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, and the Pacific, the Prime #8 is the rod for bonefish, smaller permit, and the full range of flats species that the #8 line weight covers. The 8'10" length loads quickly at the short distances that sight fishing demands, delivering flies accurately to sighted fish without excessive false casting. The premium Prime action handles the fast, powerful runs of a bonefish or permit with the sensitivity and authority that a truly premium saltwater rod provides.

The ECHO Prime Range

The Prime is ECHO's premium dedicated saltwater rod range, available from #8 through to #12 to cover the full spectrum of inshore and offshore saltwater fly fishing. The #8 is the lightest and most versatile rod in the range — the natural starting point for the angler who wants a premium saltwater outfit for the widest variety of inshore situations. As the line weight increases through the range, each rod adds authority for larger species and more demanding offshore situations.

If you've been asking "what's the best premium #8 saltwater fly rod for inshore fishing?" or "which ECHO saltwater rod is best for sea bass and bonefish?" — the ECHO Prime 8'10" #8 is the answer.

ECHO's flagship saltwater rod series

If you ask around, the ideal saltwater rod is one that will help you hit your target with the minimum number of false casts. When targeting flats fish, things happen quickly and usually in the 40 to 60 foot “kill zone.” Everything about an ECHO PRIME rod has been optimised to help you succeed in the zone.

Easy-Loading action & lengths for quick shots

Its easy-loading tip section and condensed 8’10” length set it up to cycle through the cast quicker with less effort. Modest power levels enhance feel during the cast but don’t give out on long shots. From the lightweight guides at the tip of the rod, to the multi-zone handle shape, to the no pinch point fighting butt, every inch of the rods has been engineered to help you get the fly to the target and help you when you get the grab.

Available from an 8wt to 12wt. models. These stealthy rods are ECHO's most all-around capable saltwater rod we have ever designed.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Wash all components with warm freshwater after each days use in saltwater. Pay extra attention to the space where the guides meet the blank and the metal parts of the reel seat. Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
