The Glass Rod for Every River. Every Season.

The ECHO BAG Quickshot 8'0" #6 Fly Rod is the second lightest rod in the BAG range — and for many anglers, it will be the most used. At just 127g, it is a featherlight glass rod that carries the deep, progressive flex and extraordinary feel of the BAG range in the most versatile line weight for freshwater fly fishing. The #6 sits in the sweet spot between the delicate precision of the #5 and the greater authority of the #7 — light enough for refined trout fishing, powerful enough for sea trout, and capable enough to handle streamer fishing and single-handed Spey with equal confidence.

The Quickshot taper loads efficiently at the shorter distances that river fishing demands, delivering flies with accuracy and a naturalness that only glass can provide. At €499, it is a rod that will become a firm favourite from the very first session.

Why the #6 Is the All-Round Glass Rod

The #6 line weight is where glass fishing is at its most enjoyable and most versatile. It is light enough to present dry flies and nymphs with refinement on clear trout rivers, yet powerful enough to swing wet flies and streamers for sea trout on spate rivers and estuaries. At 127g, the BAG #6 is so light that a full day on the river feels effortless — and the progressive glass action means that every take, however gentle, is felt immediately and directly.

If you are stepping up from the #5 BAG and want a rod with a little more authority for sea trout and larger rivers, the #6 is the natural next step. If you are coming down from the #7 and want a lighter, more refined glass rod for trout and technical river fishing, the #6 is equally compelling.

UK Rivers — Trout & Sea Trout

On the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland — the upper Wye, the Eden, the Usk, and the west Highland spate rivers — the BAG #6 is a genuine delight. The 8'0" length gives you the reach to cover the productive lies, the #6 line weight keeps the presentation refined, and the glass action delivers flies with a softness and naturalness that educated wild trout find irresistible. On the sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland — the Towy, the Teifi, the Dyfi, the Conwy — the #6 handles the full season from low summer water to the higher flows of autumn with equal confidence.

European Rivers — Trout & Sea Trout

Across Europe, the BAG #6 is at home on the brown trout rivers of Scandinavia, the limestone streams of Austria and Slovenia, and the sea trout rivers of Denmark and Sweden. The glass action brings a warmth and character to the fishing on these beautiful rivers that carbon rods simply cannot replicate — and the Quickshot taper ensures the rod loads efficiently even on the most intimate and confined beats.

Streamer Fishing & Single-Handed Spey

The progressive glass action of the BAG #6 makes it a superb streamer rod for large brown trout and sea trout on bigger rivers. It loads beautifully with weighted streamers and articulated flies, delivering them with a smooth, powerful stroke. For single-handed Spey fishing with a light Skagit or Scandi head, the #6 BAG is a deeply enjoyable rod — the glass action loads the head smoothly and the Quickshot taper delivers it efficiently across the river.

The Quickshot Advantage

The Quickshot taper is ECHO's solution to one of glass fishing's traditional limitations: the need to carry more line to load the rod. The BAG QS loads efficiently at shorter distances, making it ideal for the accurate, close-range casting that river fishing demands. You spend less time false casting and more time fishing — which is always the right outcome.

If you've been asking "what's the best #6 fibreglass fly rod for trout and sea trout fishing?" or "which all-round glass fly rod is best for UK and European rivers?" — the ECHO BAG Quickshot 8'0" #6 is the answer.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
