Echo Carbon XL 7'6" / 231 cm #3 Weight Fly Rod - Weighs approximately 2.8oz/80g. This is the quintessential European small stream rod where dry fly fishing truly comes alive.

The European Dry Fly Specialist

Small stream dry flies are this rod's bread and butter. The Echo Carbon XL 7'6" #3 represents the sweet spot for European stream fishing - offering slightly more reach than shorter rods whilst maintaining the delicacy needed for selective wild trout. At 80 grammes, it's light enough for dawn-to-dusk sessions yet powerful enough to handle breezy conditions and larger dry fly patterns.

Technical Specifications:

  • Length: 7'6" (231 cm) - Versatile length for varied European stream conditions
  • Line weight: #3 - The classic European small stream weight
  • Weight: 2.8oz (80g) - Featherlight for extended fishing sessions
  • Premium carbon fibre - Exceptional responsiveness and durability
  • Progressive fast action - Smooth casting with excellent feedback

Designed For European Waters:

  • Dry fly fishing on chalk streams and limestone rivers
  • Wild brown trout in freestone streams
  • Grayling fishing with dry flies and nymphs
  • Czech and Polish nymphing techniques
  • French leader nymphing in shallow runs
  • Terrestrial fishing during summer months
  • Mayfly and sedge hatches on European rivers
  • Baltic coastal sea trout streams

Why This Rod Excels in Europe:

The #3 weight is revered across Europe as the ideal line weight for small to medium streams. It handles everything from size 20 CDC emergers on English chalk streams to size 12 sedges on Scottish rivers. The 7'6" length provides excellent line control for European nymphing methods whilst offering enough backbone to manage fish in faster currents.

From the limestone streams of Slovenia to the freestone rivers of Norway, from German grayling waters to Irish brown trout loughs, this rod adapts beautifully to the diverse fishing conditions found across the continent. It's equally at home presenting delicate mayfly duns during a hatch or turning over small weighted Czech nymphs in pocket water.

Versatility Meets Precision:

What sets this rod apart is its remarkable versatility. Fish French leader techniques in the morning, switch to traditional dry fly fishing during a hatch, then finish the evening with emergers - all with the same rod. The progressive action loads easily at close range yet has the power to reach across wider pools when needed.

This is the rod for anglers who appreciate the nuances of European fly fishing traditions and demand equipment that performs flawlessly across multiple techniques and water types.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
