Customise Your Shadow 2. Fish It Your Way.

The ECHO Shadow 2 Competition Kit is the upgrade that gives you complete control over the length and balance of your Shadow 2 Euro nymphing rod. Compatible with both the #3 and #4 weight Shadow 2 rods, each kit contains everything you need to fine-tune your outfit to the river, the conditions, and your personal casting style — exactly as competition fly fishers do.

At €109, it is one of the most practical and rewarding upgrades available for any Euro nymphing outfit.

What’s in the Kit?

  • Fighting butt — adds leverage and control when playing larger fish, and improves balance for all-day fishing comfort
  • 5 x 10gr counter-weights — fine-tune the balance of the rod to suit your casting style, reduce tip-heaviness, and improve feel through the drift
  • 2 x 15cm extensions — add up to 30cm of additional length to your Shadow 2, giving you more reach on wider rivers without buying a longer rod

Compatible With

  • ECHO Shadow 2 10'0" #3
  • ECHO Shadow 2 10'6" #4

Why Customise Your Euro Nymph Rod?

Competition Euro nymphers have long understood that a rod's length and balance are not fixed — they are variables that can and should be adjusted to suit the river, the beat, and the angler. The two 15cm extensions allow you to add up to 30cm of reach when you need to cover wider water, then remove them when you move to a more intimate beat. The five 10gr counter-weights let you dial in the balance of the rod precisely — shifting weight towards the handle to reduce tip-heaviness, improve feel through the drift, and reduce fatigue across a long day on the river. The fighting butt adds leverage when playing larger fish and contributes to the overall balance of the outfit.

Together, these three components give you a level of customisation that transforms a capable Euro nymphing rod into a genuinely personalised competition-spec outfit — one that fits your casting style, your rivers, and your fishing as precisely as possible.

Who Is This Kit For?

  • Competition fly fishers who want the same customisation options that the best Euro nymphers in Europe use
  • Dedicated Euro nymphers who fish a variety of rivers and want the flexibility to adjust their rod's length and balance to suit the conditions
  • Shadow 2 owners who want to get more from their #3 or #4 rod without buying a new outfit

If you've been asking "how do I add length to my Euro nymph rod?" or "what accessories do competition Euro nymphers use to customise their rods?" — the ECHO Shadow 2 Competition Kit is the answer.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
