The Most Extraordinary Switch Rod ECHO Makes.

The ECHO SR Switch 10'6" #3 Fly Rod is in a category of its own. A fast action switch rod at #3 is almost unheard of — and yet ECHO has built one, and built it brilliantly. At just 164g, it is the lightest rod in the entire SR Switch range and one of the lightest two-handed rods available anywhere in the world, yet the dark slate gloss blank delivers the loop control, precision, and reach of a true performance Spey rod in the most delicate line weight a switch rod has ever carried.

This is not a rod for everyone. It is a rod for the angler who has spent years refining their Spey casting, who fishes wild brown trout and sea trout on the most intimate rivers in the British Isles and Europe, and who wants the ultimate expression of delicacy and control in a two-handed outfit. At €529, it is exceptional value for a rod this specialised and this rare.

Irish Rivers — Wild Brown Trout & Sea Trout

Ireland's wild rivers were made for a rod like this. On the most intimate spate rivers of Connemara and the west coast — the Erriff, the Delphi, the Bundorragha, the Ballynahinch — where wild brown trout and sea trout hold in tight, tree-lined pools that demand a short, accurate cast and the finest possible presentation, the SR Switch #3 is without equal. The #3 line weight allows tippets so fine and flies so small that the fish simply have no reason to refuse.

On the limestone rivers of the Irish midlands and the spate rivers of Cork and Kerry, where wild brown trout are educated and the water is often low and clear, the SR Switch #3 gives you the reach of a Spey rod with the delicacy of a dry fly outfit — a combination that opens up water and fish that no other rod can access in quite the same way.

UK Rivers — Wild Brown Trout & Sea Trout

On the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland — the upper Wye, the Eden headwaters, the Usk, the Tay tributaries, and the west Highland burns and spate rivers — the SR Switch #3 is the rod for the most demanding and rewarding fishing. The 10'6" length gives you the reach to cover lies that would require wading on a single-handed rod, protecting the fish and the pool, while the fast action delivers tight, accurate loops in the confined, overhung spaces that define the finest wild trout fishing in Britain.

On the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland — the Dyfi, the Conwy, the Lune, the Bladnoch — the #3 is the rod for the most challenging conditions: low, clear summer water, educated fish, and the need for a presentation so refined that the fly arrives without a ripple.

European Rivers — Trout Spey & Scandi Style

Across Europe, the SR Switch #3 finds its home on the most intimate and demanding wild trout rivers. On the brown trout rivers of Scandinavia, the limestone streams of Austria and Slovenia, and the clear lowland rivers and streams of northern Germany, the #3 line weight brings a level of delicacy and precision that transforms the experience of fishing these beautiful waters. On the classic Scandinavian rivers where the Scandi style was born, the fast action loads ultra-light shooting heads with a crispness that is deeply satisfying to cast and devastatingly effective to fish.

Fast Action at #3 — Why This Rod Stands Alone

There is no other fast action switch rod at #3 quite like this. The SR delivers the speed and precision of a performance blank in the lightest line weight a switch rod can carry — keeping the fishing intimate, the tippets impossibly fine, and the connection to wild fish as direct and immediate as fly fishing can be. It is a rod that will change how you think about what is possible on a wild trout river.

Pair it with an ultra-light Scandi shooting head in the 180–240gr range or a dedicated trout Spey line matched to #3 for all-round versatility on the wildest and most intimate rivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECHO SR Switch 10'6" #3?

The ECHO SR Switch 10'6" (323cm) #3 is the lightest rod in the ECHO SR Switch range. It is a fast action two-handed switch rod weighing approximately 164g, designed for wild brown trout and sea trout fishing on the most intimate rivers of Ireland, the British Isles, and Europe. A fast action switch rod at #3 is exceptionally rare — this is one of the most specialised and extraordinary rods ECHO makes.

How does the #3 compare to the other rods in the SR Switch series?

The SR Switch range runs from #3 through to #8. The #3 is the most specialised — the choice for the most intimate rivers and the most delicate presentations. The #4 and #5 step up for slightly larger rivers and more varied conditions. The #6 and #7 cover trout Spey and sea trout fishing on medium-sized rivers. The #8 is the most powerful, suited to sea trout and salmon on larger rivers. Choose the #3 when ultimate delicacy and intimacy are the priority.

What rivers is the ECHO SR Switch #3 suited to?

The #3 SR Switch is ideally suited to the intimate spate rivers of Connemara and the Irish west coast (Erriff, Delphi, Bundorragha, Ballynahinch), the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland (upper Wye, Eden headwaters, Usk, Tay tributaries), the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland (Dyfi, Conwy, Lune, Bladnoch), and the limestone streams of Austria, Slovenia, and Scandinavia. It excels wherever ultimate delicacy and a long reach are more important than power.

Is the SR Switch #3 suitable for experienced casters only?

The fast action blank rewards anglers who have developed their Spey casting timing — it loads quickly and unloads with precision, which requires good technique to get the best from it. It is not the ideal first two-handed rod; for beginners, the ECHO Swing Switch medium fast range is a more forgiving starting point. For experienced casters, the #3 SR Switch is a deeply rewarding and extraordinary rod.

Is the ECHO SR Switch 10'6" #3 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the ECHO SR Switch 10'6" #3 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Balticflyfisher is your specialist source for UK, Irish, and European trout Spey fly fishing tackle.

Further Details

Fast actions and versatile sizes make the SR series the best rod for two-handed fly casters that prefer a shorter rod. The #3-5 models are ideal for trout and sseatrout everywhere, while the #6-8 handle larger anadromous fish with authority. Slick cosmetics and bombproof componentry help solidify the SR as the fishiest switch rod on the water.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Do not use tape on your ferrules.

Action/Power Comparison Chart

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
