Beyond Delicate. The #2 Trout Spey.

The ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" #2 Fly Rod is the most extraordinary rod in the ECHO Trout Spey range — and quite possibly the most extraordinary trout Spey rod in the world. A purpose-built double-handed Spey rod at #2 is almost without precedent. At just 142g, it is the lightest double-handed Spey rod in the entire ECHO range, yet the lightweight high-modulus graphite blank delivers the loop control, mending ability, and swing precision of a true performance Spey rod in a line weight so light that the fly barely disturbs the surface and the tippet becomes almost invisible to the fish.

This is not a rod for the curious. It is a rod for the dedicated — the trout Spey angler who has fished the #3 and wants to go further still, who fishes the most intimate and demanding wild trout rivers in the British Isles and Europe, and for whom the swung fly at #2 is the ultimate expression of the art. At €779, it is exceptional value for a rod this rare and this refined.

The Swung Fly at #2 — A Different World

Swinging flies at #2 is a discipline that exists at the very edge of what double-handed fly fishing can do. The line is so light that the cast feels effortless, the fly lands without a ripple, and the swing proceeds with a naturalness that heavier lines simply cannot replicate. The ECHO Trout Spey #2 was engineered for exactly this — a medium fast action that loads progressively with the lightest Scandi heads available, mends line across complex currents with the gentlest touch, and maintains contact with the fly through the entire swing with a sensitivity that borders on the extraordinary.

When a wild brown trout or sea trout takes on the swing at #2, the connection is unlike anything a heavier rod can provide. The take is felt immediately, directly, and completely. That is what this rod exists for.

UK & Irish Rivers — Wild Brown Trout & Sea Trout

On the most intimate and demanding wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland — the upper Wye, the Eden headwaters, the Usk, the Tay tributaries, and the west Highland burns and spate rivers — the ECHO Trout Spey #2 is the rod for the angler who wants to fish the swung fly at its absolute finest. The 11'0" length gives you the reach to hold the fly in the productive zone through the entire swing without disturbing the pool, while the #2 line weight keeps the presentation so delicate that even the most educated wild trout are disarmed.

On the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland — the Dyfi, the Conwy, the Lune, the Bladnoch — and the intimate spate rivers of Ireland's west coast — the Erriff, the Delphi, the Bundorragha — the #2 is the rod for the most challenging conditions of all: low, gin-clear summer water, fish that have seen everything, and the need for a presentation so refined it is almost invisible.

European Rivers — Trout Spey & Scandi Style

Across Europe, the ECHO Trout Spey #2 finds its home on the most intimate and pristine wild trout rivers. On the brown trout rivers of Scandinavia, the limestone streams of Austria and Slovenia, and the clear lowland rivers and streams of northern Germany, the #2 line weight brings a level of delicacy to the swung fly that no other rod in the world can match. On the classic Scandinavian rivers where the Scandi style was born, this rod is the ultimate expression of that tradition.

High-Modulus Graphite at #2 — Sensitivity as a Superpower

At #2, the blank is everything. The lightweight, high-modulus graphite of the ECHO Trout Spey transmits the feel of the swing with a fidelity that is simply not possible in a heavier rod — the subtle pull of the current on the fly, the moment the line tightens below you, the instant a fish intercepts the swing. At 142g, the rod disappears in the hand and the river takes over. That is the experience this rod was built to deliver.

Pair it with an ultra-light Scandi shooting head in the 150–210gr range or a dedicated #2 trout Spey line for all-round versatility on the wildest and most intimate rivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" #2?

The ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" (335cm) #2 is the lightest and most specialised rod in the ECHO Trout Spey range. It is a medium fast action double-handed Spey rod weighing approximately 142g, built from lightweight high-modulus graphite, and designed for swinging flies on the most intimate wild trout and sea trout rivers of the British Isles and Europe. A purpose-built double-handed Spey rod at #2 is almost without precedent.

How does the #2 compare to the #3 and #4 in the ECHO Trout Spey range?

The #2 is the most extreme and specialised rod in the range — the choice for the most intimate rivers and the finest presentations, where the swung fly at the lightest possible line weight is the priority. The #3 steps up for slightly larger rivers and more varied conditions whilst retaining the delicacy that defines the trout Spey range. The #4 adds further versatility and can double as a superb lightweight rod for summer grilse on smaller salmon rivers. Choose the #2 for the ultimate in delicacy; the #3 for intimate rivers; the #4 for versatility including light grilse fishing.

What rivers is the ECHO Trout Spey #2 suited to?

The #2 is ideally suited to the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland (upper Wye, Eden headwaters, Usk, Tay tributaries, west Highland burns), the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland (Dyfi, Conwy, Lune, Bladnoch), the intimate spate rivers of Ireland's west coast (Erriff, Delphi, Bundorragha), and the limestone streams of Austria, Slovenia, and Scandinavia. It excels wherever ultimate delicacy and the swung fly are the priority.

Is the ECHO Trout Spey #2 suitable for experienced casters only?

Yes — the #2 is a specialist rod for experienced Spey casters who have already fished the #3 and want to go further. The ultra-light line weight demands good technique and timing to get the best from it. It is not a first two-handed rod; for anglers new to trout Spey, the #3 or #4 Swing is a more appropriate starting point.

Is the ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" #2 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" #2 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Balticflyfisher is your specialist source for UK, Irish, and European trout Spey fly fishing tackle.

Further Details
A rod that opens up a whole new world for Trout Anglers

The new Trout Spey is specialized for when the bugs aren’t hatching and you want to cover the most amount of water with a sub-surface presentation.

Modest Power and Action for Maximum Versatility

The Trout Spey is light weight and dialed for far more than just two-hand swinging with Skagit and Scandi heads:  Flick an emerger off the tip, mend a country mile of line with an indicator nymph rig, tight-line nymph, fish a dry fly hatch, and anything else you may find yourself needing in ever-changing trout fisheries.

Our Most Advanced Two-Hand Series to Date

Closely related to their other new flagship two-hand rods, the Full Spey and Compact Spey, the Trout Spey is part of the most advanced lineup of Spey rods ECHO have ever produced.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Do not use tape on your ferrules.

Action/Power Comparison Chart

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
