The Yamaga Blanks Enne XP 8'11" (272cm) #10 is the extra power variant of the #10 in the Yamaga Blanks Enne series — a fast action saltwater fly rod built in Japan with additional backbone for the most demanding coastal and predator fly fishing situations. Where the standard #10 offers power with comfort, the XP delivers maximum authority for the heaviest flies, the strongest wind, and the most powerful fish. It is equally at home on European pike and salmon waters as it is on warm-water flats targeting permit, GTs, and baby tarpon.

The Yamaga Blanks Enne Series

The Enne is Yamaga Blanks' dedicated saltwater fly rod series, all built at 8'11" (272cm) in a four-piece design. The series spans six line weights to cover every coastal and large-water fly fishing situation:

  • 8'11" (272cm) #6 — the lightest, for sea trout, bass, and coastal species in lighter conditions
  • 8'11" (272cm) #8 — the most versatile all-round saltwater choice
  • 8'11" (272cm) #9 — for larger coastal species and stronger wind
  • 8'11" (272cm) #10 — for demanding saltwater conditions and larger flies
  • 8'11" (272cm) #10XP — extra power for the most demanding situations
  • 8'11" (272cm) #12 — the heaviest, for large predators including wels catfish

What Does XP (Extra Power) Mean?

The XP designation indicates this rod has additional backbone and a stiffer action compared to the standard #10. This extra power enables you to cast heavier and more wind-resistant flies, fight larger and more powerful fish with greater authority, handle stronger currents and coastal wind, and turn over bulky saltwater patterns and heavy wire traces with ease. It is a 10-weight with the muscle of a heavier rod — for anglers who consistently fish at the upper limits of what a standard #10 can handle.

Enne #10XP vs #10 — Which Should You Choose?

The standard #10 offers a more forgiving, comfortable casting stroke — better suited to all-day fishing and situations where maximum stiffness is not required. The #10XP provides maximum backbone and authority for the most extreme conditions, the heaviest flies, and the most powerful fish. Choose the #10 for power with comfort; choose the #10XP when conditions demand everything the rod can give.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Yamaga Blanks Enne XP 8'11" #10?
The Yamaga Blanks Enne XP 8'11" (272cm) #10 is the extra power variant of the #10 in the Yamaga Blanks Enne saltwater fly rod series. It is a fast action, four-piece rod made in Japan with additional backbone for demanding coastal, predator, and tropical fly fishing — equally at home on European pike and salmon waters as on warm-water flats targeting permit, GTs, and baby tarpon.

What does XP (Extra Power) mean on the Yamaga Enne?
XP stands for Extra Power — the rod has additional backbone and a stiffer action than the standard #10. This enables it to cast heavier and more wind-resistant flies, handle stronger currents and coastal wind, and fight larger and more powerful fish with greater authority. It is a 10-weight with the muscle of a heavier rod.

What is the difference between the Enne #10XP and the standard #10?
The #10XP has additional backbone and a stiffer action than the standard #10, designed for the most extreme conditions and the heaviest flies. The standard #10 provides a smoother, more forgiving casting stroke that is more comfortable for all-day fishing. Choose the #10XP when conditions demand maximum power; choose the standard #10 for power with comfort.

What species can I target with the Yamaga Enne #10XP?
The #10XP covers a wide range of species — large pike and zander on Scandinavian and Baltic waters, large sea bass and cod along Atlantic coastlines, Atlantic salmon on single-handed rods, and warm-water species including permit on tropical flats, GTs, and baby tarpon. It is the ideal rod for travelling anglers who fish both European and tropical destinations.

Is the Yamaga Enne #10XP suitable for permit fishing?
Yes — the Enne #10XP is well suited to permit fishing on tropical flats. Its fast action with extra power delivers the distance and accuracy needed to reach permit at range, and the backbone to turn over the crab and shrimp patterns that permit demand. The fighting butt provides leverage when permit make their powerful runs.

Is the Yamaga Enne #10XP suitable for Atlantic salmon fishing?
Yes — the Enne #10XP is a capable and powerful single-handed salmon rod for demanding conditions. Its extra backbone handles heavy sink tips and large flies with authority, and the fighting butt provides the leverage needed when playing powerful salmon in strong currents.

How does the Yamaga Enne #10XP compare to the #12?
The #10XP provides substantial power for the most demanding saltwater and predator situations whilst remaining lighter and less fatiguing than the #12. The #12 is designed for the largest predators — including wels catfish — where maximum line weight and power are essential. Choose the #10XP for demanding coastal, pike, and tropical fishing; choose the #12 for the largest freshwater predators.

Is the Yamaga Blanks Enne available worldwide?
Yes — the Yamaga Blanks Enne XP 8'11" #10 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Yamaga Blanks rods are made in Japan to exacting standards and trusted by saltwater and predator fly anglers across Europe and beyond.

Care

YAMAGA would like your ENNE experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Wash all components with warm freshwater after each days use in saltwater. Pay extra attention to the space where the guides meet the blank and the metal parts of the reel seat. Try to keep sand and dirt off the spiggots. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly.
