The Yamaga Blanks Linn 7'5" (226cm) #3 is the lightest rod in the Yamaga Blanks Linn series — a dedicated small stream specialist built in Japan for anglers who demand whisper-soft presentations, exceptional sensitivity, and maximum finesse on clear European rivers and streams. Its medium-slow action loads easily at short distances, making it the ideal tool for selective wild brown trout and grayling in confined, clear-water environments where presentation is everything.

The Yamaga Blanks Linn Series

The Linn series is Yamaga Blanks' dedicated small stream range, comprising four rods designed specifically for technical fishing in confined waters:

  • 7'5" (226cm) #3 — the lightest, for maximum finesse in the tightest spaces
  • 7'5" (226cm) #4 — more versatility at the same compact length
  • 8'1" (246cm) #3 — additional reach with the same delicate action
  • 8'1" (246cm) #4 — the most versatile rod in the series for small to medium streams

Why Choose a 3-Weight Rod?

The 3-weight is the ultimate finesse tool for clear-water trout fishing. It delivers flies with minimal water disturbance — crucial for spooky fish in gin-clear streams — provides exceptional sensitivity for detecting subtle takes, protects the finest tippets, and turns small dry flies over with a delicacy that heavier rods cannot match. If you fish clear water for selective trout and grayling, a 3-weight is not overkill — it is the right tool.

Why 7'5" (226cm)?

Short rods excel in tight quarters. At 7'5" (226cm), the Linn fits under overhanging branches, navigates narrow beats, and keeps your casting stroke compact in confined spaces — whilst the #3 line weight ensures presentations land like thistledown. This combination makes it the perfect tool for small Highland burns, Alpine streams, chalk stream headwaters, the intimate brown trout streams of Jutland and northern Germany, and any clear-water situation where fish spook easily and casting room is limited.

What Is Medium-Slow Action?

Medium-slow action means the rod flexes deep into the blank, loading easily at the short distances typical of small stream fishing — often 5–15 metres. The deeper flex protects ultra-fine tippets during the fight, delivers whisper-soft presentations, provides excellent feel for subtle takes, and makes fighting fish on light tackle a pleasure rather than a nerve-wracking experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Yamaga Blanks Linn 7'5" #3?
The Yamaga Blanks Linn 7'5" (226cm) #3 is the lightest rod in the Yamaga Blanks Linn series — a dedicated small stream fly rod made in Japan with a medium-slow action. It is designed for maximum finesse on clear rivers and streams worldwide, delivering whisper-soft presentations to selective wild brown trout and grayling in confined, clear-water environments.

What is the Yamaga Blanks Linn series?
The Linn series is Yamaga Blanks' dedicated small stream range, comprising four rods: 7'5" (226cm) #3, 7'5" (226cm) #4, 8'1" (246cm) #3, and 8'1" (246cm) #4. All four share the same medium-slow action and small stream focus, with the shorter lengths suited to the most confined spaces and the lighter weights offering maximum delicacy.

Why choose a 3-weight fly rod for small stream fishing?
The 3-weight delivers flies with minimal water disturbance, protects the finest tippets, and turns small dry flies over with a delicacy that heavier rods cannot match. For clear-water small stream fishing where fish spook easily and tiny flies are the norm, a 3-weight is the most appropriate tool — not overkill, but precisely right.

How does the Yamaga Linn 7'5" #3 compare to the #4?
The #3 offers greater delicacy and sensitivity than the #4 — better suited to the finest tippets, the smallest dry flies, and the most selective fish in the clearest water. The #4 provides slightly more versatility and power for larger flies and bigger fish. Choose the #3 when maximum finesse is the priority; choose the #4 for a broader range of small stream situations.

Is the Yamaga Linn 7'5" #3 suitable for grayling fishing?
Yes — the Linn 7'5" (226cm) #3 is an excellent choice for grayling fishing on small, clear limestone rivers and chalk streams. Its medium-slow action provides the sensitivity to detect subtle grayling takes and the delicacy to protect fine tippets during the fight. It is well suited to grayling rivers in Austria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, and the chalk streams of southern England.

What fly lines work best with the Yamaga Linn #3?
A double taper floating line is the traditional choice for maximum delicacy and easy roll casting on small streams. A presentation taper suits ultra-delicate work with tiny dry flies. The medium-slow action is forgiving with line weight variations — some anglers prefer a 2-weight line for the softest possible presentations in very low, clear water.

Is the Yamaga Blanks Linn available worldwide?
Yes — the Yamaga Blanks Linn 7'5" #3 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Whether you are fishing the intimate wild brown trout streams of Jutland and northern Germany, the small streams of Scotland, Austria, or Slovenia, or small stream trout waters anywhere in the world, we can deliver to your door.

Care

YAMAGA would like your ENNE experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Wash all components with warm freshwater after each days use in saltwater. Pay extra attention to the space where the guides meet the blank and the metal parts of the reel seat. Try to keep sand and dirt off the spiggots. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly.
