The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #11 is a dedicated big game saltwater fly rod — fast action, powerful, and built for large GT, tarpon, and the most demanding tropical flats and offshore fishing worldwide. At approximately 160g, it also covers the heaviest European coastal conditions, making it the choice for travelling anglers who fish exposed Atlantic coastlines in summer and tropical destinations in winter.

Why the #11?

The #11 is the big game flats specialist — more powerful than the #10 for larger GT, tarpon in channels, and the most demanding tropical conditions, yet more manageable than the #12 for all-day flats fishing. It handles the largest tropical flies and poppers, cuts through strong wind on exposed flats and coastlines, provides maximum backbone for powerful fish, and turns over heavy leaders and shock tippets with authority. For anglers who target the largest tropical species, the #11 is the natural choice.

Line Recommendations

For tropical big game, a tropical-specific weight-forward floating line suits surface poppers and large flies; an intermediate handles subsurface presentations. For tarpon in channels, a fast-sinking line achieves the depth required. For European offshore fishing, a heavy saltwater shooting head maximises distance in strong wind. The powerful fast action handles all these line systems with authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #11?

The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #11 is a dedicated big game saltwater fast action fly rod weighing approximately 160g. It is designed for large GT, tarpon, and big game flats fishing worldwide, as well as large offshore species and demanding coastal conditions on European Atlantic and North Sea coastlines.

How does the #11 compare to the #10 and #12 in the series?

The #10 is the versatile all-rounder covering Atlantic salmon, medium GT, and tarpon. The #11 steps up for larger GT, tarpon in demanding conditions, and the most powerful tropical species — the choice when the #10 feels underpowered. The #12 is the maximum power option for the very largest offshore and tropical species. The #11 suits most big game flats situations.

Is the #11 suitable for large GT fishing?

Yes — the #11 is an excellent choice for large GT fishing on tropical flats and reefs. The powerful fast action handles the largest GT flies and poppers, turns over heavy shock tippets with authority, and provides the backbone to stop powerful GT runs in reef and structure environments.

Is the #11 suitable for tarpon fishing?

Yes — the #11 is well suited to tarpon fishing in channels and on flats. The powerful action delivers the forceful hook sets needed to penetrate tarpon's hard mouths, and the backbone controls powerful runs and jumps effectively. For the very largest tarpon, the #12 may be preferred.

Is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #11 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #11 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Echo rods are designed by Tim Rajeff, a world champion fly caster, and are trusted by saltwater fly anglers across Europe and beyond.

Maximum Line Speed

Born from ECHO's popular Boost Salt Series, the Boost Blue is built for anglers with an aggressive casting stroke to achieve maximum line speed.

Crisp, fast action

The all-new actions are a result of Tim’s Rajeffs relentless tweaking to the Boost Salt Series.  With its light tip section mated to a powerful bottom section, these rods pack the punch needed to fight the wind and other challenging conditions.

Ultimate balance of power & precision

The Boost Blue features upgraded titanium stripping guies and is the perfect rod for aggressive casters who can’t live without that modern, fast-action rod feel.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Wash all components with warm freshwater after each days use in saltwater. Pay extra attention to the space where the guides meet the blank and the metal parts of the reel seat. Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
