The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #12 is the maximum power rod in the Echo Boost Blue series — a fast action heavy saltwater fly rod built for the largest GT, big tarpon, and the most demanding tropical and offshore fishing worldwide. At approximately 173g, it delivers the authority to cast the largest flies, fight the most powerful fish, and perform in conditions where lighter rods simply cannot cope.

Why the #12?

The #12 is the choice when nothing less will do — for the largest GT on Indo-Pacific reefs, for big tarpon in channels and on flats, for the most powerful offshore species along European Atlantic coastlines, and for casting the heaviest shooting head systems in the strongest coastal wind. It handles the largest streamers and poppers, turns over heavy shock tippets and wire traces with authority, and fights the most powerful fish with complete control.

Line Recommendations

For large GT and tropical big game, a tropical-specific weight-forward floating line suits large surface poppers; an intermediate handles subsurface presentations at depth. For big tarpon, a fast-sinking line achieves the depth required in channels. For European offshore fishing, a heavy saltwater shooting head maximises distance in strong wind. The powerful fast action handles the heaviest line systems with complete authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #12?

The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #12 is the maximum power rod in the Echo Boost Blue series. It is a fast action heavy saltwater fly rod weighing approximately 173g, designed for the largest GT, big tarpon, and the most demanding tropical and offshore saltwater fishing worldwide.

How does the #12 compare to the #11 in the series?

The #11 is a dedicated big game rod for large GT, tarpon, and demanding tropical flats fishing. The #12 is the maximum power option — the choice for the very largest GT, the biggest tarpon, and the most extreme conditions where the #11 starts to feel underpowered. The #12 is the top of the Echo Boost Blue range.

Is the #12 suitable for the largest GT?

Yes — the #12 is the definitive choice for the largest GT on Indo-Pacific reefs and flats. The maximum power fast action handles the largest GT flies and poppers, turns over heavy shock tippets with complete authority, and provides the backbone to stop the most powerful GT runs in reef and structure environments where lighter rods are simply outgunned.

Is the #12 suitable for big tarpon?

Yes — the #12 is well suited to big tarpon fishing in channels and on flats. The powerful action delivers the forceful hook sets needed to penetrate tarpon's hard mouths, and the maximum backbone controls the most powerful runs and jumps. It is the preferred choice for anglers targeting the largest tarpon.

Is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #12 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #12 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Echo rods are designed by Tim Rajeff, a world champion fly caster, and are trusted by saltwater fly anglers across Europe and beyond.

Maximum Line Speed

Born from ECHO's popular Boost Salt Series, the Boost Blue is built for anglers with an aggressive casting stroke to achieve maximum line speed.

Crisp, fast action

The all-new actions are a result of Tim’s Rajeffs relentless tweaking to the Boost Salt Series.  With its light tip section mated to a powerful bottom section, these rods pack the punch needed to fight the wind and other challenging conditions.

Ultimate balance of power & precision

The Boost Blue features upgraded titanium stripping guies and is the perfect rod for aggressive casters who can’t live without that modern, fast-action rod feel.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Wash all components with warm freshwater after each days use in saltwater. Pay extra attention to the space where the guides meet the blank and the metal parts of the reel seat. Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
