The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #8 is the all-round workhorse of the Echo Boost Blue series — a fast action saltwater fly rod with the backbone to handle heavier rigs, larger flies, and more powerful fish. At approximately 120g, it is the natural choice for Baltic and Scandinavian pike fishing in brackish and saltwater environments, Atlantic bass on exposed coastlines, and larger coastal species where the #7 starts to feel underpowered. Powerful, versatile, and built for demanding European coastal conditions.

Why the #8?

The #8 is the step up from versatility to authority. Where the #7 covers the widest range of conditions, the #8 is the choice when you need more — more power for larger pike and bass, more backbone for heavier wire traces and rigs, more line weight to cut through strong coastal wind. It handles large streamers and poppers with ease, fights powerful fish in current and structure, and performs across the full range of demanding European coastal and estuarine fishing situations.

Line Recommendations

For pike and Baltic fishing, a weight-forward floating line suits surface poppers and large deer hair flies; an intermediate handles streamers at depth. For Atlantic bass and coastal species, a saltwater-specific floating or intermediate line works well. Wire traces for pike are easily turned over by the fast action and additional backbone of the #8.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #8?

The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #8 is the all-round workhorse of the Echo Boost Blue saltwater series. It is a fast action fly rod weighing approximately 120g, designed for pike, Atlantic bass, and larger coastal species on European coastlines and estuaries. It has the backbone for heavier rigs, wire traces, and larger flies.

How does the #8 compare to the #7 and #9 in the series?

The #7 is the versatile all-rounder for sea trout and school bass across varied conditions. The #8 steps up with more backbone for pike, larger bass, and heavier rigs — the choice when power matters more than finesse. The #9 adds further authority for the largest pike and most demanding conditions. The #8 covers the widest range of European coastal and estuarine fishing situations that require genuine power.

Is the #8 suitable for Baltic pike fishing?

Yes — the #8 is an excellent choice for Baltic and Scandinavian pike fishing in brackish and saltwater environments. The additional backbone handles wire traces and larger pike flies with ease, and the fast action delivers the power to fight large pike in current and structure. It is the most popular weight in the Boost Blue series for serious European pike anglers.

Can the #8 handle wire traces for pike?

Yes — the #8 has sufficient power to turn over wire traces and heavier rigs required for pike fishing. The fast action delivers the energy needed to cast wire leaders without collapsing, whilst the powerful backbone provides control when pike thrash and roll during the fight.

Is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #8 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #8 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Echo rods are designed by Tim Rajeff, a world champion fly caster, and are trusted by coastal fly anglers across Europe and beyond.

Maximum Line Speed

Born from ECHO's popular Boost Salt Series, the Boost Blue is built for anglers with an aggressive casting stroke to achieve maximum line speed.

Crisp, fast action

The all-new actions are a result of Tim’s Rajeffs relentless tweaking to the Boost Salt Series.  With its light tip section mated to a powerful bottom section, these rods pack the punch needed to fight the wind and other challenging conditions.

Ultimate balance of power & precision

The Boost Blue features upgraded titanium stripping guies and is the perfect rod for aggressive casters who can’t live without that modern, fast-action rod feel.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Wash all components with warm freshwater after each days use in saltwater. Pay extra attention to the space where the guides meet the blank and the metal parts of the reel seat. Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
