The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #9 is the heavy end of the European coastal range in the Echo Boost Blue series — a fast action saltwater fly rod with the authority to handle the largest pike, powerful Atlantic bass in strong conditions, and the heavier shooting head systems used for distance casting on exposed coastlines. At approximately 125g, it delivers maximum power for demanding European coastal and estuarine fishing without the bulk of a dedicated offshore rod.

Why the #9?

The #9 is the choice when the #8 is not quite enough — for the largest Baltic and Scandinavian pike, for Atlantic bass in the most exposed and demanding conditions, for distance casting with heavy shooting heads on open coastlines, and for any situation where maximum power and backbone are the priority. It handles the largest pike flies and poppers, turns over heavy wire traces with authority, and fights powerful fish in strong current and structure.

Line Recommendations

For large pike, a weight-forward floating line suits large surface poppers and deer hair flies; an intermediate or slow-sinking line handles large streamers at depth. For Atlantic bass and coastal species in demanding conditions, a saltwater-specific shooting head system maximises distance and turnover. The powerful fast action handles the heaviest line systems with authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #9?

The Echo Boost Blue 9'0" (274cm) #9 is the most powerful rod in the European coastal range of the Echo Boost Blue series. It is a fast action fly rod weighing approximately 125g, designed for large pike, Atlantic bass in demanding conditions, and heavy coastal species on European coastlines and estuaries.

How does the #9 compare to the #8 and #10 in the series?

The #8 is the all-round workhorse for pike, Atlantic bass, and heavier coastal species. The #9 steps up with maximum power for the largest pike and most demanding coastal conditions — the choice when the #8 feels underpowered. The #10 moves into offshore and heavy saltwater territory. The #9 is the top of the European coastal range in the Boost Blue series.

Is the #9 suitable for large Baltic pike?

Yes — the #9 is an excellent choice for the largest Baltic and Scandinavian pike in brackish and saltwater environments. The powerful fast action handles the largest pike flies and poppers, turns over heavy wire traces with authority, and provides the backbone to control large pike in current and structure.

What is the Echo Boost Blue series?

The Echo Boost Blue is a range of fast action saltwater fly rods designed for European coastal fishing, available from #6 through to #12. Each rod in the series is optimised for the specific species and conditions at that line weight — from light sea trout and school bass at #6 through to large Atlantic salmon, pike, and offshore species at the heavier end of the range.

Is the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #9 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the Echo Boost Blue 9'0" #9 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Echo rods are designed by Tim Rajeff, a world champion fly caster, and are trusted by coastal fly anglers across Europe and beyond.

Maximum Line Speed

Born from ECHO's popular Boost Salt Series, the Boost Blue is built for anglers with an aggressive casting stroke to achieve maximum line speed.

Crisp, fast action

The all-new actions are a result of Tim’s Rajeffs relentless tweaking to the Boost Salt Series.  With its light tip section mated to a powerful bottom section, these rods pack the punch needed to fight the wind and other challenging conditions.

Ultimate balance of power & precision

The Boost Blue features upgraded titanium stripping guies and is the perfect rod for aggressive casters who can’t live without that modern, fast-action rod feel.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Wash all components with warm freshwater after each days use in saltwater. Pay extra attention to the space where the guides meet the blank and the metal parts of the reel seat. Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Action/Power Explained

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
