The ECHO Bravo LT is the premium freshwater reel in the ECHO fly reel range — delivering all the advanced drag technology of the saltwater-focused Bravo in a lighter, more versatile package designed for freshwater fishing. The LT designation stands for Light, reflecting a reel that prioritises balanced, comfortable fishing without sacrificing the drag performance that serious anglers demand. Available in three sizes from #4 to #10, it is the ideal choice for trout, grayling, sea trout, and Atlantic salmon anglers who want premium drag technology in a freshwater-optimised reel.

The ECHO Fly Reel Range

ECHO produce four families of fly reels, each designed for a different level of performance and application:

  • Base — the entry model; maintenance-free, reliable, and exceptional value for freshwater fishing
  • Ion — the mid-range option; large arbour, machined alloy, and a more refined drag for the angler who wants to step up
  • Bravo — the premium saltwater reel; fully machined, large arbour, and a carbon fibre drag system built for the demands of coastal and offshore fly fishing
  • Bravo LT — all the features of the Bravo in a lighter package, targeted at freshwater fishing

The Four Carbon Disc Drag System

The Bravo LT's four-disc carbon drag system is what sets it apart from the Ion and Base. Four carbon fibre discs working in concert deliver exceptionally smooth, progressive drag pressure with outstanding heat resistance — carbon fibre is the material of choice in premium fly reels precisely because it maintains consistent performance under sustained pressure without glazing, sticking, or requiring lubrication. Complementing the carbon discs is a premium roller clutch bearing that delivers instant, backlash-free drag engagement the moment a fish runs. For anglers who fish for species capable of long, sustained runs — Atlantic salmon, sea trout, steelhead — this multi-disc carbon system represents a genuine performance advantage over single-disc designs.

Key Features

  • Four carbon disc drag system — smooth, progressive drag pressure with exceptional heat resistance and no maintenance requirement
  • Premium roller clutch bearing — instant, backlash-free drag engagement with zero hesitation
  • Sealed construction — protected against water, grit, and debris for reliable performance in demanding conditions
  • Large arbour spool design — faster line retrieval, reduced line memory, and more consistent drag pressure throughout the fight
  • Solid machined aluminium alloy construction — machined from solid bar stock for maximum rigidity and durability
  • Incoming and outgoing audible click — keeps you informed of line movement at all times
  • Easy left/right hand retrieve conversion — switch retrieve direction quickly without specialist tools

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECHO Bravo LT fly reel?

The ECHO Bravo LT is the premium freshwater reel in the ECHO fly reel range. It delivers all the advanced drag technology of the saltwater-focused Bravo — including a four carbon disc drag system and premium roller clutch bearing — in a lighter package targeted at freshwater fishing. Available in three sizes: 4/5, 6/7, and 8/10 weight.

What is the difference between the ECHO Bravo and the Bravo LT?

The Bravo is ECHO's premium saltwater reel — built for the most demanding coastal and offshore fly fishing with a heavier frame and drag system sized for #7 to #12 line weights. The Bravo LT shares the same drag technology and construction philosophy but in a lighter package, covering #4 to #10 line weights and targeted at freshwater fishing. Choose the Bravo for saltwater and heavy-duty applications; choose the Bravo LT for premium freshwater performance in a lighter, more balanced reel.

How does the Bravo LT compare to the ECHO Ion?

The Bravo LT steps up from the Ion with a four carbon disc drag system (vs the Ion's single disc), sealed construction, and a more refined roller clutch bearing. The Ion is the mid-range option offering excellent value for general freshwater and light saltwater use. Choose the Bravo LT when drag performance, sealed protection, and premium feel are the priority; choose the Ion for versatile, reliable performance at a lower price point.

Is the ECHO Bravo LT suitable for Atlantic salmon fishing?

Yes — the Bravo LT 6/7 and 8/10 are excellent Atlantic salmon reels. The four carbon disc drag handles the powerful, sustained runs of Atlantic salmon with authority, and the large arbour design provides fast line retrieval when a fish runs towards you. It is well suited to salmon fishing on Scottish, Norwegian, and Icelandic rivers.

Is the ECHO Bravo LT suitable for sea trout fishing?

Yes — the Bravo LT is an excellent sea trout reel. The 6/7 size is particularly well suited to sea trout fishing on Scandinavian and Baltic rivers, where the four carbon disc drag provides the smooth, consistent pressure needed to control powerful sea trout in strong currents, and the sealed construction handles the demands of fishing in and around saltwater environments.

Is the ECHO Bravo LT available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the ECHO Bravo LT fly reel is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. ECHO reels are designed by Tim Rajeff, a world champion fly caster, and are trusted by freshwater fly anglers across Europe and beyond.

Further Product Details

Starting with their proven drag design, ECHO cut, shaved, and overhauled the core of the reel until they could fit a four-layer carbon fiber drag system in the hub of the ECHO BRAVO LITE reels. The design includes O-rings to keep water and dirt from entering the guts of the reel. This allows a person to not only change the retrieve from left to right without tools, but also completely disassemble the drag and service it without spilling a drop of their beer.
