The Full Spey Experience. No Compromises.

The ECHO Full Spey 13'0" #8 Fly Rod is a premium full-length salmon Spey rod built for anglers who want the complete two-handed experience — the reach, the line control, the authority, and the deeply satisfying feel of a 13-foot rod loading and unrolling across a wide salmon pool. Built from lightweight, high-modulus graphite with a medium fast action, SIC stripping guides, and hard chrome snake guides throughout, it is a rod that fishes above its price point and rewards the angler who puts in the time to fish it well.

At €799, the ECHO Full Spey #8 is a serious salmon rod at a price that makes it genuinely accessible — a rod that will serve you faithfully across many seasons on the finest salmon and sea trout rivers of the British Isles and Europe.

Built for UK Salmon & Sea Trout Rivers

On the great Scottish salmon rivers — the Tay, the Spey, the Dee, the Tweed — the Full Spey #8 is the rod for the angler who wants to cover the water properly. The 13'0" length gives you the reach to swing flies through the deepest and most productive lies, the mending ability to hold the fly in the zone through complex currents, and the #8 power class to handle the heavy sink tips and large tube flies that autumn salmon fishing demands. When a fresh-run Atlantic salmon takes on the swing, the medium fast action absorbs the initial shock and keeps the fish connected through the fight.

On the sea trout rivers of Wales and northern England — the Wye, the Usk, the Towy, the Eden, the Lune — the Full Spey #8 is the rod for the biggest fish and the most demanding conditions: high, coloured water after rain, heavy flies, and the need for a rod with genuine stopping power when a double-figure sea trout makes its first run downstream.

European Salmon & Sea Trout Rivers

Across Europe, the Full Spey #8 is at home on the broadest and most productive salmon and sea trout rivers. On the Norwegian fjord rivers — the Gaula, the Namsen, the Orkla — the 13'0" length and medium fast action load Scandi and Skagit heads with the authority that big Norwegian water demands, covering the far bank and swinging flies through the deep, productive lies where the largest Atlantic salmon hold. On the Baltic salmon rivers of Sweden and Finland, and the sea trout rivers of Denmark in high autumn water, the #8 power class handles the full range of conditions from low summer water to the heavy flows of October.

High-Modulus Graphite — The Premium Difference

The lightweight, high-modulus graphite blank is what separates the Full Spey from rods built to a lower specification. High-modulus graphite is stiffer per unit weight than standard graphite, which means the blank can be built lighter without sacrificing power or recovery speed. The result is a rod that loads with authority, recovers quickly between casts, and transmits the feel of the swing directly to the angler's hand — essential qualities for a full day's salmon fishing on a wide river.

Line Systems

  • Scandi heads: 480–540gr — for classic swinging fly technique and elegant long-distance presentation
  • Skagit heads: 540–600gr — for heavy flies and fast-sinking tips in high-water and autumn conditions
  • Traditional Spey lines rated for #8 two-handed rods — for all-round versatility across mixed beats

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECHO Full Spey 13'0" #8?

The ECHO Full Spey 13'0" (396cm) #8 is the most powerful rod in the ECHO Full Spey range. It is a medium fast action full-length two-handed Spey rod built from lightweight high-modulus graphite, designed for Atlantic salmon and sea trout fishing in the most demanding conditions on UK and European rivers. It is the definitive choice when maximum power and reach are the priority.

How does the #8 compare to the #7 and #6 in the Full Spey range?

The #6 is the lightest and most approachable rod, suited to sea trout, grilse, and lighter salmon. The #7 is the versatile all-rounder for a full salmon season across varied conditions. The #8 is the most powerful — the choice for the broadest beats, the heaviest flies, and the most demanding high-water conditions. Choose the #8 when maximum authority is the priority.

What rivers is the ECHO Full Spey #8 suited to?

The #8 is ideally suited to the great Scottish salmon rivers (Tay, Spey, Dee, Tweed), the sea trout rivers of Wales and northern England (Wye, Usk, Towy, Eden, Lune), the Norwegian fjord rivers (Gaula, Namsen, Orkla), and the Baltic salmon rivers of Sweden and Finland. It excels wherever the broadest pools, the most powerful fish, and the most demanding conditions require maximum authority from a full Spey rod.

Is the ECHO Full Spey #8 suitable for Norwegian salmon fishing?

Yes — the Full Spey #8 is an excellent choice for Norwegian salmon fishing on the great fjord rivers. The 13'0" length and #8 power class deliver the distance and authority needed to cover the far bank on wide rivers such as the Gaula, Namsen, and Orkla, and the medium fast action handles heavy Skagit heads and large tube flies with authority in high-water conditions.

Is the ECHO Full Spey 13'0" #8 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the ECHO Full Spey 13'0" #8 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Balticflyfisher is your specialist source for UK and European salmon and sea trout fly fishing tackle.

A Full-Length Fast-Action Spey Rod

Despite the trends for going shorter on all things in the two-hand world, there will always be a place for full length rods.  By using their years of spey rod development experience along with the expertise of spey casting champion Mariusz Wrobewski, ECHO produced their most advanced spey rods theey have ever produced.

Action and Length for Modern Spey Lines.

Spey lines have evolved since they hit the mainstream, yet the rods have remained largely the same.  So ECHO started from scratch to find the ideal flex and length to most effectively fish today’s most popular types of two-hand lines.

ECHO's Lightest, Most Advanced Two Hand Series to Date

As part of the greater family of new spey rods (Full Spey, Compact Spey, Trout Spey), these new rods are dialed for how today’s anglers fish their two hand rods.  The Full Spey comes in a standard 13′ length in 6wt, 7wt and 8wt perfect for bigger water situations.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Do not use tape on your ferrules.

Action/Power Comparison Chart

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
