The Most Extraordinary Trout Spey Rod in the TR2 Range.

The ECHO TR2 11'0" #3 Trout Spey Fly Rod is in a category of its own. A medium fast+ action full Spey rod at #3 is almost without precedent — and ECHO has built it to a standard that matches its ambition. At just 158g, it is the lightest rod in the entire TR2 range and one of the lightest full Spey rods available anywhere in the world, yet the glossy green blank delivers the loop control, precision, and reach of a true performance Spey rod in the most delicate line weight a double-handed rod has ever carried.

This is not a rod for everyone. It is a rod for the trout Spey purist — the angler who has spent years refining their Spey casting, who fishes wild brown trout and sea trout on the most intimate and demanding rivers of the British Isles and Europe, and who wants the ultimate expression of delicacy, control, and elegance in a two-handed outfit. At €529, it is exceptional value for a rod this specialised, this refined, and this rare.

Irish Rivers — Wild Brown Trout & Sea Trout

Ireland's wild rivers were made for a rod like this. On the most intimate spate rivers of Connemara and the west coast — the Erriff, the Delphi, the Bundorragha, the Ballynahinch — where wild brown trout and sea trout hold in tight, tree-lined pools that demand the shortest, most accurate cast and the finest possible presentation, the TR2 #3 is without equal. The #3 line weight allows tippets so fine and flies so small that the fish simply have no reason to refuse. On the limestone rivers of the Irish midlands and the spate rivers of Cork and Kerry, where wild brown trout are educated and the water is often low and clear, this rod gives you the reach of a full Spey outfit with the delicacy of the finest dry fly rod — a combination that is genuinely unique.

UK Rivers — Wild Brown Trout & Sea Trout

On the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland — the upper Wye, the Eden headwaters, the Usk, the Tay tributaries, and the west Highland burns and spate rivers — the TR2 #3 is the rod for the most demanding and rewarding fishing. The 11'0" length gives you the reach to cover lies that would require wading on a single-handed rod, protecting the fish and the pool, while the medium fast+ action delivers tight, accurate loops in the confined, overhung spaces that define the finest wild trout fishing in Britain.

On the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland — the Dyfi, the Conwy, the Lune, the Bladnoch — the #3 is the rod for the most challenging conditions: low, clear summer water, educated fish, and the need for a presentation so refined that the fly arrives without a ripple.

European Rivers — Trout Spey & Scandi Style

Across Europe, the TR2 #3 finds its home on the most intimate and demanding wild trout rivers. On the brown trout rivers of Scandinavia, the limestone streams of Austria and Slovenia, and the clear lowland rivers and streams of northern Germany, the #3 line weight brings a level of delicacy and precision that no other full Spey rod can match. On the classic Scandinavian rivers where the Scandi style was born, the medium fast+ action loads ultra-light shooting heads with a crispness and efficiency that is deeply satisfying to cast and devastatingly effective to fish.

The TR2 Difference — Three Grip Styles at #3

What makes the TR2 #3 truly exceptional is the combination of its extraordinary lightness and the three grip configuration — with composite inserts and pressure points — that allows you to vary your hand position through a long day of casting. At 158g, fatigue is almost never an issue, but the grip system ensures that feel, control, and connection to the fly remain constant from the first cast to the last. There is no other trout Spey rod quite like it.

Pair it with an ultra-light Scandi shooting head in the 180–240gr range or a dedicated #3 trout Spey line for all-round versatility on the wildest and most intimate rivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECHO TR2 11'0" #3?

The ECHO TR2 11'0" (335cm) #3 is the lightest and most specialised rod in the ECHO TR2 range. It is a medium fast+ action full Spey rod weighing approximately 158g, designed for wild brown trout and sea trout fishing on the most intimate rivers of Ireland, the British Isles, and Europe. A full Spey rod at #3 is almost without precedent — this is one of the most extraordinary trout Spey rods available anywhere.

How does the #3 compare to the #4 in the TR2 trout Spey range?

The #3 is the most specialised and intimate rod in the TR2 range — the choice for the smallest rivers and the finest presentations, where ultimate delicacy is the priority. The #4 steps up with slightly more length (11'3") and versatility, covering a wider range of Irish, British, and European trout rivers whilst retaining the refined presentation that defines the trout Spey end of the TR2 range. Choose the #3 for the most intimate rivers; choose the #4 for slightly larger water and more varied conditions.

What rivers is the ECHO TR2 #3 suited to?

The TR2 #3 is ideally suited to the intimate spate rivers of Connemara and the Irish west coast (Erriff, Delphi, Bundorragha, Ballynahinch), the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland (upper Wye, Eden headwaters, Usk, Tay tributaries), the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland (Dyfi, Conwy, Lune, Bladnoch), and the limestone streams of Austria, Slovenia, and Scandinavia. It excels wherever ultimate delicacy and a long reach are more important than power.

What is the difference between the TR2 trout Spey rods (#3, #4) and the TR2 salmon rods (#6, #7, #8)?

The TR2 #3 and #4 are dedicated trout Spey rods — lighter, shorter, and designed for wild brown trout and sea trout on intimate rivers where delicacy and presentation are the priority. The TR2 #6, #7, and #8 are full salmon Spey rods — longer, more powerful, and designed for sea trout and Atlantic salmon on larger rivers. The #6 bridges the two, doubling as an excellent sea trout rod. All five share the same glossy green blank, three grip system, and medium fast+ action.

Is the ECHO TR2 11'0" #3 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the ECHO TR2 11'0" #3 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Balticflyfisher is your specialist source for UK, Irish, and European trout Spey fly fishing tackle.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Do not use tape on your ferrules.

Action/Power Comparison Chart

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
