The TR2 Built for Trout Spey. The Most Refined Rod in the Range.

The ECHO TR2 11'3" #4 Trout Spey Fly Rod brings the performance, build quality, and three grip system of the TR2 salmon range to the world of trout Spey — and the result is one of the most extraordinary trout Spey rods available at any price. At just 167g, it is featherlight for an 11'3" rod, yet the medium fast+ action delivers the loop control, precision, and reach of a true performance Spey rod in a line weight perfectly matched to wild brown trout and sea trout on the most intimate rivers of the British Isles and Europe.

This is the rod for the angler who has outgrown their switch rod and wants the full Spey experience — the long anchor, the sweeping D-loop, the satisfying unrolling of a Scandi head across a wide pool — on the wild trout rivers they love most. At €529, it is a serious performance rod at a price that makes it genuinely compelling.

Irish Rivers — Wild Brown Trout & Sea Trout

Ireland's wild rivers are the natural home of a rod like this. On the intimate spate rivers of Connemara and the west coast — the Erriff, the Delphi, the Bundorragha, the Ballynahinch — where wild brown trout and sea trout hold in tight, tree-lined pools that demand a short, accurate cast and the finest possible presentation, the TR2 #4 gives you the reach and line control of a full Spey rod with a delicacy that no heavier outfit can replicate. On the limestone rivers of the Irish midlands and the spate rivers of Cork and Kerry, the #4 line weight is perfectly matched to the fine tippets and small flies that wild Irish trout demand.

UK Rivers — Wild Brown Trout & Sea Trout

On the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland — the upper Wye, the Eden, the Usk, the Tay headwaters, and the west Highland burns and spate rivers — the TR2 #4 transforms how you fish. The 11'3" length gives you the reach to mend line across complex currents and swing wet flies through the lies without wading and disturbing the fish, while the medium fast+ action delivers tight, accurate loops in the confined, overhung spaces that define the finest wild trout fishing in Britain.

On the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland — the Dyfi, the Conwy, the Lune, the Bladnoch — the #4 is the ideal line weight for low, clear summer water, where a heavier outfit would be conspicuous and a lighter, more refined presentation is the difference between success and failure.

European Rivers — Trout Spey & Scandi Style

Across Europe, the TR2 #4 finds its home on the most intimate and demanding wild trout rivers. On the brown trout rivers of Scandinavia, the limestone streams of Austria and Slovenia, and the clear lowland rivers and streams of northern Germany, the #4 line weight brings a level of delicacy and precision that transforms the experience of fishing these beautiful waters. On the classic Scandinavian rivers where the Scandi style was born, the medium fast+ action loads ultra-light shooting heads with a crispness and efficiency that is deeply satisfying to cast and devastatingly effective to fish.

The TR2 Difference — Three Grip Styles

What sets the TR2 apart from other trout Spey rods at this price point is the three grip configuration — with composite inserts and pressure points — that allows you to vary your hand position through a long day of casting, reducing fatigue and maintaining feel and control from the first cast to the last. On a full day's trout Spey fishing, that is a genuine and meaningful advantage.

Pair it with an ultra-light Scandi shooting head in the 210–270gr range or a dedicated trout Spey line for all-round versatility on wild trout rivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECHO TR2 11'3" #4?

The ECHO TR2 11'3" (344cm) #4 is the more versatile of the two trout Spey rods in the ECHO TR2 range. It is a medium fast+ action full Spey rod weighing approximately 167g, designed for wild brown trout and sea trout fishing on Irish, British, and European rivers. It is the natural step up from a switch rod for anglers who want the full Spey experience on wild trout rivers.

How does the #4 compare to the #3 in the TR2 trout Spey range?

The #3 is the most specialised and intimate rod — the choice for the smallest rivers and the finest presentations. The #4 steps up with slightly more length and versatility, covering a wider range of Irish, British, and European trout rivers whilst retaining the refined presentation that defines the trout Spey end of the TR2 range. The #4 is the more practical all-round choice for most trout Spey anglers; the #3 is for those who fish the most intimate water.

What rivers is the ECHO TR2 #4 suited to?

The TR2 #4 is ideally suited to the intimate spate rivers of Connemara and the Irish west coast (Erriff, Delphi, Bundorragha, Ballynahinch), the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland (upper Wye, Eden, Usk, Tay headwaters), the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland (Dyfi, Conwy, Lune, Bladnoch), and the limestone streams of Austria, Slovenia, and Scandinavia.

What is the difference between the TR2 trout Spey rods (#3, #4) and the TR2 salmon rods (#6, #7, #8)?

The TR2 #3 and #4 are dedicated trout Spey rods — lighter, shorter, and designed for wild brown trout and sea trout on intimate rivers where delicacy and presentation are the priority. The TR2 #6, #7, and #8 are full salmon Spey rods — longer, more powerful, and designed for sea trout and Atlantic salmon on larger rivers. The #6 bridges the two, doubling as an excellent sea trout rod. All five share the same glossy green blank, three grip system, and medium fast+ action.

Is the ECHO TR2 11'3" #4 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the ECHO TR2 11'3" #4 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Balticflyfisher is your specialist source for UK, Irish, and European trout Spey fly fishing tackle.

Tim’s fast action two hander.  Built with a beefy butt section for those abrupt, bottom-hand power applications.  Touch and go to Skagit casting, floating lines to big sink tips.  It’s dialed.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Do not use tape on your ferrules.

Action/Power Comparison Chart

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
