Power, Precision & Presence on the Salmon River.

The ECHO TR2 13'6" #8 Spey Fly Rod is a step above the Swing Spey range — a powerful, purposefully built salmon rod that commands the water. The medium fast+ action loads with authority, delivers heavy flies and sink tips with ease, and gives you the backbone to turn a fresh-run Atlantic salmon on the strongest beats in the British Isles and Europe. At just 272g for a 13'6" #8 rod, it is remarkably well-balanced, and the three grip styles with composite inserts and pressure points make it one of the most comfortable full Spey rods to cast across a long day on the river.

At €529, the TR2 punches well above its price point — a rod that fishes like it costs considerably more.

UK Rivers — Atlantic Salmon & Sea Trout

The TR2 #8 was built for the kind of fishing that defines salmon angling in the British Isles. On the great Scottish salmon rivers — the Tay, the Spey, the Dee, the Tweed — the 13'6" length gives you the reach to cover the wide, productive pools and the medium fast+ action delivers Skagit and Scandi heads with the power and precision that big water demands. On the spate rivers of Wales and northern England — the Wye, the Usk, the Eden, the Lune — the TR2 handles the heavy sink tips and large tube flies that autumn salmon and sea trout fishing requires, turning powerful fish away from snags and fast water with authority.

On the classic sea trout rivers of Scotland and Wales, the TR2 #8 is the rod for the biggest fish and the most demanding conditions — when the river is running high and coloured after rain and you need a rod with genuine stopping power.

Irish Rivers — Atlantic Salmon & Sea Trout

Ireland's salmon and sea trout rivers are among the most storied in the world, and the TR2 #8 is equal to the best of them. On the great western salmon rivers — the Moy, the Erriff, the Corrib, the Drowes — the 13'6" length covers the wide pools and long glides where Atlantic salmon hold through the season. On the spate rivers of Cork, Kerry, and Connemara, the medium fast+ action handles the heavy flies and fast currents that Irish salmon fishing demands, while the three grip styles ensure comfort through long sessions on the bank.

European Rivers — Salmon, Sea Trout & Baltic Fishing

Across Europe, the TR2 #8 is the rod for the broadest and most powerful salmon and sea trout rivers. On the great Norwegian fjord rivers — the Alta, the Gaula, the Namsen — where distance and line control are everything, the 13'6" length and medium fast+ action give you the reach and power to cover the far bank and swing flies through the deepest, most productive lies. On the Baltic salmon rivers of Sweden, Finland, and northern Germany, the #8 power class handles the heavy Skagit heads and large tube flies that Baltic salmon fishing demands.

On the sea trout rivers of Denmark and Sweden, the TR2 is the rod for the biggest autumn fish and the most challenging high-water conditions — when you need a rod that simply will not be beaten.

Three Grip Styles — A Genuine Advantage

The TR2's three grip configuration — with composite inserts and pressure points — is more than a design detail. It allows you to vary your hand position through a long day of casting, reducing fatigue and maintaining feel and control from the first cast to the last. On a full day's salmon fishing, that matters.

Pair it with a Scandi shooting head in the 480–540gr range or a Skagit head for heavy flies and fast-sinking tips in high-water conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECHO TR2 13'6" #8?

The ECHO TR2 13'6" (414cm) #8 is the most powerful rod in the TR2 salmon Spey range. It is a medium fast+ action full Spey rod weighing approximately 272g, designed for Atlantic salmon fishing on the broadest and most demanding rivers of the British Isles and Europe. It is the definitive choice when maximum power and reach are the priority.

How does the #8 compare to the #7 in the TR2 salmon range?

The #7 is the versatile all-rounder for a full season on UK and European salmon rivers, balancing authority and delicacy across varied conditions. The #8 is the most powerful rod in the range — the choice for the broadest beats, the most powerful fish, and the most demanding high-water conditions. Choose the #7 for versatility; choose the #8 when maximum power and reach are the priority.

What rivers is the ECHO TR2 #8 suited to?

The TR2 #8 is ideally suited to the great Scottish salmon rivers (Tay, Spey, Dee, Tweed), the spate rivers of Wales and northern England (Wye, Usk, Eden, Lune), the great Irish salmon rivers (Moy, Erriff, Corrib, Drowes), and the Norwegian fjord rivers (Alta, Gaula, Namsen). It excels wherever the broadest pools, the most powerful fish, and the most demanding conditions require maximum authority from a Spey rod.

Is the TR2 #8 suitable for Norwegian salmon fishing?

Yes — the TR2 #8 is an excellent choice for Norwegian salmon fishing on the great fjord rivers. The 13'6" length and #8 power class deliver the distance and line control needed to cover the far bank on wide rivers such as the Alta, Gaula, and Namsen, and the medium fast+ action handles heavy Skagit heads and large tube flies with authority in high-water conditions.

Is the ECHO TR2 13'6" #8 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the ECHO TR2 13'6" #8 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Balticflyfisher is your specialist source for UK, Irish, and European salmon and sea trout fly fishing tackle.

Tim’s fast action two hander.  Built with a beefy butt section for those abrupt, bottom-hand power applications.  Touch and go to Skagit casting, floating lines to big sink tips.  It’s dialed.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Do not use tape on your ferrules.

Action/Power Comparison Chart

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
