The Lightest. The Most Delicate. The Most Rewarding Swing.

The ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" #3 Fly Rod is the most extraordinary rod in the ECHO Trout Spey range — and one of the most extraordinary trout Spey rods available anywhere. At just 150g, it is featherlight even by the standards of this specialist range, yet the lightweight high-modulus graphite blank delivers the loop control, mending ability, and swing precision of a true performance Spey rod in the most delicate line weight a double-handed rod can carry.

This is the rod for the angler who has found the #4 Trout Spey and wants to go further — finer tippets, smaller flies, more intimate rivers, and a connection to the swing that only a #3 line weight can provide. At €779, it is a serious investment in the most refined style of trout Spey fishing.

Built for the Perfect Swing at #3

Swinging flies at #3 is a discipline that demands the finest rod available. The line is light, the flies are small, the tippets are fine — and every element of the cast, the mend, and the swing must be executed with precision. The ECHO Trout Spey #3 was engineered for exactly this: a medium fast action that loads progressively with ultra-light Scandi heads, mends line across complex currents without disturbing the fly, and maintains contact through the entire swing with a sensitivity that heavier rods simply cannot replicate.

When a wild brown trout or sea trout takes on the swing at #3 — that electric, unmistakable pull — the connection is immediate and direct. There is no rod between you and the fish. That is what this rod is for.

UK & Irish Rivers — Wild Brown Trout & Sea Trout

On the most intimate wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland — the upper Wye, the Eden headwaters, the Usk, the Tay tributaries, and the west Highland burns and spate rivers — the ECHO Trout Spey #3 is the rod for the most demanding and rewarding swung fly fishing. The 11'0" length gives you the reach to hold the fly in the productive zone through the entire swing without wading and disturbing the pool, while the #3 line weight keeps the presentation so refined that the most educated wild trout have no reason to be suspicious.

On the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland — the Dyfi, the Conwy, the Lune, the Bladnoch — and the intimate spate rivers of Ireland's west coast — the Erriff, the Delphi, the Bundorragha — the #3 is the rod for low, clear summer water when sea trout are at their most wary and only the finest presentation will bring a take.

European Rivers — Trout Spey & Scandi Style

Across Europe, the ECHO Trout Spey #3 finds its home on the most intimate and demanding wild trout rivers. On the brown trout rivers of Scandinavia, the limestone streams of Austria and Slovenia, and the clear lowland rivers and streams of northern Germany, the #3 line weight brings a level of delicacy to the swung fly that no heavier rod can match. On the classic Scandinavian rivers where the Scandi style was born, the medium fast action loads ultra-light shooting heads with a crispness and efficiency that makes the swing feel effortless and the take feel electric.

High-Modulus Graphite at #3 — Why It Matters More

At #3, the choice of blank material matters more than at any other line weight. The lightweight, high-modulus graphite of the ECHO Trout Spey transmits the feel of the swing directly to the angler's hand — the subtle resistance of the current on the fly, the moment the line straightens below you, the instant a fish intercepts the fly. At 150g, there is nothing between you and the river. That sensitivity is not a luxury at #3. It is essential.

Pair it with an ultra-light Scandi shooting head in the 180–240gr range or a dedicated #3 trout Spey line for all-round versatility on the wildest and most intimate rivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" #3?

The ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" (335cm) #3 is the middle rod in the ECHO Trout Spey range. It is a medium fast action double-handed Spey rod weighing approximately 150g, built from lightweight high-modulus graphite, and designed for swinging flies on the most intimate wild trout and sea trout rivers of the British Isles and Europe.

How does the #3 compare to the #2 and #4 in the ECHO Trout Spey range?

The #2 is the most extreme and specialised rod — the choice for the finest presentations on the most intimate rivers, for anglers who have already fished the #3 and want to go further. The #3 is the most practical all-round choice in the Trout Spey range, covering the widest range of intimate European rivers with delicacy and precision. The #4 steps up with more versatility for slightly larger rivers and can also serve as a superb lightweight rod for summer grilse on smaller salmon rivers.

What rivers is the ECHO Trout Spey #3 suited to?

The #3 is ideally suited to the wild brown trout rivers of Wales, northern England, and Scotland (upper Wye, Eden headwaters, Usk, Tay tributaries, west Highland burns), the smaller sea trout rivers of Wales and Scotland (Dyfi, Conwy, Lune, Bladnoch), the intimate spate rivers of Ireland's west coast (Erriff, Delphi, Bundorragha), and the limestone streams of Austria, Slovenia, and Scandinavia.

What is the difference between the ECHO Trout Spey and the ECHO Swing Trout Spey?

The ECHO Trout Spey is a purpose-built, premium double-handed Spey rod made from lightweight high-modulus graphite — designed specifically for the swung fly on the most demanding wild trout rivers. The ECHO Swing is a more accessible and affordable trout Spey rod with a dual grip switch configuration. The Trout Spey is the specialist choice for experienced anglers who prioritise sensitivity, delicacy, and the swung fly above all else.

Is the ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" #3 available with worldwide shipping?

Yes — the ECHO Trout Spey 11'0" #3 is available from Balticflyfisher with worldwide shipping. Balticflyfisher is your specialist source for UK, Irish, and European trout Spey fly fishing tackle.

A rod that opens up a whole new world for Trout Anglers

The new Trout Spey is specialized for when the bugs aren’t hatching and you want to cover the most amount of water with a sub-surface presentation.

Modest Power and Action for Maximum Versatility

The Trout Spey is light weight and dialed for far more than just two-hand swinging with Skagit and Scandi heads:  Flick an emerger off the tip, mend a country mile of line with an indicator nymph rig, tight-line nymph, fish a dry fly hatch, and anything else you may find yourself needing in ever-changing trout fisheries.

Our Most Advanced Two-Hand Series to Date

Closely related to their other new flagship two-hand rods, the Full Spey and Compact Spey, the Trout Spey is part of the most advanced lineup of Spey rods ECHO have ever produced.

Care

Rajeff Sports would like your ECHO experience to be a good one and we ask that you take care of your equipment with the following regular maintenance:

Try to keep sand and dirt out of the ferrules. Occasionally use a few drops of any reel oil or grease on the reel seat threads to keep it operating smoothly. Ski wax can also be used on the ferrules if needed to ensure a proper fit.

Do not use tape on your ferrules.

Action/Power Comparison Chart

Action vs Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is used for comparison between ECHO rod models. Utilizing this chart, you’ll be able to choose an ECHO rod that best fits you and your personal casting stroke. The vertical axis indicates the rod’s power, while the horizontal axis indicates the rod’s action. In simple terms, single-hand rod action is derived from the top half of the rod, while power is derived from the bottom half.

Action:
Fast action rods feature softer tips than medium action rods and provide a ‘stiffer’ feel. Fast action rods excel in the hands of anglers with more aggressive casting strokes and greater stroke control. Medium action rods are ideal for anglers with more fluid casting strokes and have a larger ‘sweet spot’ for a wider range of casting strokes. Consistently throwing a tailing loop? Your rod’s action may not be a good fit to you and your casting stroke.

Power:
A rod’s power is its resistance to flexing under load. Powerful rods are ‘beefier’ through the bottom half, generate higher line speeds, and are more adept at keeping big fish pinned. Delicate rods are more presentation-oriented, protect light tippet, and are a better choice for picky fish.
